Sodium sulfide (Chemical Formula: Na₂S) Appearance: Usually yellow or red flakes (varies depending on iron content). Key Characteristics: High alkalinity: Strongly alkaline in aqueous solution, with extremely strong corrosiveness. Hygroscopic: Easily absorbs moisture and carbon dioxide when exposed to air, and slowly releases hydrogen sulfide gas. Reducing property: A commonly used reducing agent in industry. Main Applications: Leather industry (core application): Used for liming and dehairing raw hides, rapidly decomposing proteins in hair. Dye industry: Used to produce sulfur dyes (such as sulfur blue and sulfur black), and to reduce dyes to soluble substances. Mineral processing industry: Used as a flotation agent for non-ferrous metal ores such as copper and antimony. Water treatment: Precipitates heavy metal ions in industrial wastewater.
