"Methylene Chloride (CH₂Cl₂), also known as dichloromethane, is a commonly produced chloroalkane, primarily used as a solvent in many industries. It is a colorless liquid at room temperature, dense and miscible with water. It has a sweet smell and is non-flammable, but releases toxic fumes when exposed to very high temperatures. It is made by reacting methane or monochloromethane with chlorine gas at high temperature. First of all, it does not occur naturally.

Methylene chloride is used as a solvent in many industries. Common uses include paint removal, degreasing, and as a solvent for adhesives, pharmaceuticals, metal cleaning, aerosols, coatings, etc."
