Description
Andiroba Oil, as well as Brazil Nut Oil, is extracted by cold mechanical pressing from the seed of andiroba, a species native to the Amazon region. The oil contained in the almond of the andiroba is light yellow and extremely bitter. When subjected to a temperature below 25°C, it solidifies, remaining with consistency similar to that of vaseline. It contains substances such as olein, palmitin and glycerin.
Applications of Andiroba Oil
Popularly, the oil is used for bruises, swellings, rheumatisms and scarring, rubbing up on the bruised site. As a repellent, there are those who pass the oil on the skin and those who burn the bagasse.
The candle that is on the market is made with bagasse. It should be lit in the morning and afternoon, at the time when mosquitoes start to attack.
In the cosmetic industry, oil is used in soaps, shampoos and creams. The oil is considered as a remedy for baldness. It also works well as a natural solvent. It is also used as a cellular reconstituinte of the dermis, eliminating inflammation and superficial pain, has purgative action in the elimination of worms.
