Description
There are three stereoisomers of tartaric acid: gyrtaric acid, L-tartaric acid, and meso-racemic tartaric acid. The optical rotation of a mixture of equal amounts of dextral and left-rotator cancels each other out and is called racemic tartaric acid. Racemates do not exist in nature and can be chemically synthesized. All kinds of tartaric acid are colorless crystals that are easily soluble in water.
