Description
Europium trichloride, chemical formula EuCl3. Molecular Weight 258.32 Yellow needle-like crystals. Specific gravity 4.89. Melting point 850 °c. Soluble in water and ethanol. By the reaction of europium oxide and hydrochloric acid, europium chloride crystals hexahydrate are prepared first, and then heated to 180~200 °C in hydrogen chloride atmosphere. If anhydrous europium chloride is heated to 400~450 °C in a hydrogen gas stream, colorless and amorphous europium dichloride is formed. It is used for scientific research reagents and biochemical research.
