Description
Potassium carbonate (chemical formula: K2CO3, English Potassiumcarbonate), also known as potassium alkali, is colorless crystals or white particles in appearance, highly soluble in water, and its solution is strongly alkaline. Cooling its saturated aqueous solution, there is a glassy monoclinic crystal hydrate 2K2CO3·3H2O crystallization separation, density 2.043, at 100 °C that is lost crystal water. Insoluble in ethanol, acetone and ether. It is highly hygroscopic, and can absorb carbon dioxide and moisture when exposed to air and convert it into potassium bicarbonate. It can be obtained by the reaction of potassium hydroxide with carbon dioxide. It can also be obtained by using potassium chloride and magnesium carbonate, water and carbon dioxide under pressure, or by impregnation of tung seed ash and plant ash. It is mainly used as a raw material for syngas decarburization, electron tube, glass, enamel, printing and dyeing, welding electrode, film development, inorganic salts and CRT glass shells.
