The SSP78XX is a three-terminal positive voltage regulator IC with a regulator circuit that can deliver up to 1.5A of output current, adjusting the internal limitations and thermal shutdown characteristics of the circuit to make it largely impervious to overload. When used as a substitute for Zener diode-resistor combinations, the output impedance can be effectively increased while the quiescent current can be reduced.
