<br>While the engine is running, the energy generated by combustion is converted into mechanical energy (about 25\%) and heat energy. The greater part of this heat energy is released by the engine exhaust system; the remaining part is withdrawn by operating the cooling system. <br><br>The cooling system consists of several components, one of which is the water pump, which is responsible for circulating the coolant through the engine cooling galleries. While flowing through the galleries, the coolant removes heat and carries it to the radiator, where it is cooled and returns to the cooling system for a new cycle.
