Synthetic Zeolite - Zeolite 4A (MCIZ4A) detergent grade zeolites are the primary alternative to phosphate type builders, and are used in home detergents to soften the washing water by calcium ion exchange. The majority of phosphate-free household detergents rely on Zeolite as a builder. Zeolite type A was created as a detergent builder primarily to be an environmentally preferable alternative to phosphate builders, which can promote eutrophication of freshwater systems by nourishing excessive amounts of algae.
