The cumaru is a typical seed of the Brazilian Amazon, whose name derives from the Tupi language. It is considered a legume and its properties provide health benefits.
Also called cumaru bean and, internationally, more commonly called tonka, this seed is known for its vanilla-like flavor and aroma. Thus, it came to be called "vanilla of the Amazon".
