What is sunflower meal used for?
The sunflower meal, obtained after the oil is extracted from the seed, has a high protein percentage (28% for meal from hulled seeds to 42% for dehulled seed meals) and is used primarily in food rations for livestock and poultry.
The main antinutritional factor found in sunflower meal is chlorogenic acid and the high fibre content. A drawback to the utilisation of sunflower meal is the presence of mycotoxins and heavy metals.

Simply grind raw (or soaked and dehydrated) sunflower seeds in a food processor, coffee/spice grinder, or high-performance blender such as a Vitamix. Pulse until the sunflower seeds have a flour-like consistency and avoid over-grinding, or you may end up with sunflower seed butter.
