AISI 1045 (C45) is a type of medium carbon steel, known for its good machinability and hardenability, exhibiting high strength and toughness under normal or hot working conditions.

This steel grade has limited hardenability, typically recommended for sections with a diameter of 60 mm or less for machining, quenching, and tempering.

Under normal or hot working conditions, 1045 steel can also achieve a relatively high surface hardness through quenching or appropriate heat treatment, with surface hardness reaching HRC 54–60, specifically determined by the workpiece size and hardening process.
