M2 molybdenum high-speed tool steel has a higher carbon content and better wear resistance than M1 molybdenum high-speed tool steel. M2 high-speed steel is a tungsten-molybdenum tool steel. M2 steel is characterized by a good balance of toughness, wear resistance, and red hardness. Due to its excellent performance and price advantage, AISI M2 high-speed steel has largely replaced T1 steel in most applications. M2 belongs to medium alloy steel, a well-rounded steel with good machinability, superior to high alloy cold work steel in this respect.
