Description
A UV sterilizer (also known as a UV sterilizer) is a device that uses ultraviolet light of a specific wavelength (mainly in the UVC band) to physically disinfect water, air, or object surfaces. It destroys microbial genetic material purely physically, achieving efficient, broad-spectrum sterilization without leaving chemical residues or secondary pollution.
Working principle
The core sterilization mechanism of UV sterilizers is the "photobiology" effect. The device's built-in UV light source (such as low-pressure mercury lamps or UVC-LEDs) emits UVC ultraviolet light with wavelengths between 200nm~280nm (especially 253.7nm). When bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other microorganisms are exposed to a certain dose of UVC, ultraviolet light penetrates their cell membranes, directly damaging their internal DNA or RNA molecular structures, causing them to lose their ability to replicate and reproduce, which leads to microbial death and achieves thorough sterilization.
Core advantages
Highly effective broad-spectrum sterilization: Ultraviolet light has an extremely high kill rate for almost all known bacteria, viruses, and pathogens, typically achieving over 99% sterilization within one to two seconds, and is equally effective against drug-resistant strains.
No secondary contamination: Pure physical disinfection is used, requiring no chemical agents (such as chlorine or ozone), does not alter the original composition of water or air, and does not produce harmful disinfection by-products.
Safe and environmentally friendly: Eliminates the toxic and flammable safety hazards caused by traditional chemical disinfectants (such as chlorides), ensuring safe and reliable operation.
Low operating costs: The equipment occupies a small footprint, is easy to operate and maintain, and long-term electricity consumption and maintenance costs are usually lower than traditional chemical disinfection methods.
Main application scenarios
Water treatment field: Widely used for municipal drinking water purification, domestic sewage treatment, industrial circulating water, swimming pool water, seawater desalination, and disinfection of water for the food and beverage industry.
Air and space purification: Integrated into central air conditioning systems, air purifiers, or as mobile/wall-mounted devices, used for air sterilization in hospital operating rooms, schools, shopping malls, offices, and other public places.
Surface disinfection: Used for surface sterilization of everyday items such as medical devices, food processing and packaging, express parcels, mobile phones, and tableware.
